Civil Rights

The Firm’s attorneys have significant experience representing individuals whose civil rights have been violated. We vigorously pursue claims on behalf of clients who have been discriminated against on the basis of their race, sex, national origin, gender, disability, religion and age.

The Firm was one of the first law firms in the country to prosecute violations of Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (“ADA”), and continues to pursue compliance with the ADA on behalf of Access Now, Inc., an advocacy group comprised of over a thousand disabled persons whose organizational purposes is to assure businesses are accessible to, and usable by, all persons, including those with disabilities.

We also defend various municipalities and agencies, including the City of North Miami, City of Homestead, City of Hallandale, the Hialeah Housing Authority, and their police officers and employees who are accused of violating a person’s civil rights.

The lawyers of Robert L. Switkes & Associates, P.A. regularly conduct seminars for police officers on recent trends in the law regarding qualified immunity, excessive force, false arrest, malicious prosecution, spoliation of evidence, and police misconduct, and frequently lecture on recent caselaw involving police and workplace misconduct.
