David Acosta

David Acosta joined the firm as an Associate in 2015, where he focuses his practice on civil litigation and employment law matters. He is also the former Assistant City Attorney for North Bay Village, Florida.

David received his B.A. in Accounting from Florida International University and his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law. Prior to joining the firm, David gained valuable experience through internships with a federal U.S. Magistrate Judge, a federal U.S. District Judge, the U.S. EEOC, and an Am Law 100 law firm.

David’s civil litigation experience includes employment law (e.g., Title VII, FLSA, and ADEA), civil rights (e.g., police excessive force claims), and local government (e.g., constitutional law claims, and civil forfeitures).

As the Assistant City Attorney for North Bay Village, David advised on various local government issues, drafted ordinances and resolutions, and presided over commission meetings, code enforcement hearings, and advisory board meetings.

In addition to his litigation, employment, and local government experience, David prides himself in understanding businesses and their goals. Along with having a degree in Accounting, understanding financial statements and tax issues, and working with large corporations at KPMG, David has worked closely with business owners on their financial and legal goals, and he often considers the financial impact that legal decisions would have on a client’s business.

David is a member of the American Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association. He is fluent in Spanish, and he is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and Florida. He can be reached at (305) 534-4757 or dacosta@switkeslaw.com.
